JUNIOR OLYMPICS AWARDS
At the Awards Ceremonies on Wednesday and Saturday, the top 10 places from each age/gender division are awarded medals. In the Relay Competition, the top 5 teams in each division are awarded medals (15 in all for each division.
In addition to the individual awards at the Cross Country Ski Junior Olympics, there are a few other important achievements that will be recognized at the Closing Ceremony on Saturday.
Teams from each division (there are 10 of them across the country) vie for the overall team title, named the ALASKA CUP (the first team winner of the award). Points are collected by the top 6 finishers in each division and allocated to their teams.
The Dave Quinn Award
Each year the USSA Junior Cross Country Subcommittee presents the Dave Quinn award to recognize Junior Olympics athlete who best exemplifies the ideals of the cross country ski sport which Dave Quinn expressed through his life. In addition to outstanding results, nominees should have special attributes such as love for the sport, leadership, overcoming hardship, work ethic, etc., which make them unique.
The Roger Weston High School Team Award (HSTA)
The Roger Weston Award honors the top high school boys and top high school girls teams competing at US Junior National Championships. The award was initiated to recognize the valuable contribution from high school skiing to the development of cross country ski racing across the USA. Roger Weston was instrumental in developing the sport of cross country skiing in the Mid-Atlantic division and across the USA.
The USSA Junior National Club Team Award (JNCTA)
The JNTCA recognizes the top boys, girls, and combined boys and girls club teams competing at US Junior National Championships. The award was initiated to recognize the importance of strong clubs to the development of a strong national ski program.
